Honey Rock Camp, a offshoot of Wheaton College, has been for the last few years our home for intern training. All fifteen interns and four LT staff traveled up to northern Wisconsin (best state ever) yesterday to begin four 1/2 days of intense training in the ways of LeaderTreks. From dawn til dusk and even later, these men and women will receive vital information and experiences that will shape their upcoming summer and their lives as a whole. The intern program at LeaderTreks, started years ago, has continued to flourish and improve as the years have gone by, and a huge part of that growth has to do with what happens in these days of training up at camp. Over the course of 4 1/2 days these college students will learn in depth all Ten Leadership Principles we teach here at LT, the mission behind LT, how to find their own life mission, learning how to run team time, and so much more. On top of all this, the famed challenge day awaits them on Sunday. In talking with Billy today, a Summit Team member who was an intern in 2005, told me his challenge day resembled more of a CIA spy mission than an intern training experience. Face paint, blindfolds, defusing bombs(not real of course), crossing bridges over water onto islands, and crawling through mud fields made for a pretty exciting day. I have no idea what awaits the interns for Challenge Day 2008, but whatever it is, stories will be told for years of that wonderous day.
